ABOUT

The Ecosystem Research Consultancy is lead by Dr. Ágnes Vári. She’s a researcher with a background in freshwater & plant ecology transitioning towards social-ecology.
She loves to connect different strands of science and work with a variety of people, who contribute to a wide palette of skills and knowledge - establishing diverse, interdisciplinary teams.
The path
Coming with an education in ecology at the Technische Universität Munich (Diploma in Biology), she worked with aquatic plants in Lake Balaton (PhD in Ecology & Hydrobiology), made a short detour towards remote-sensing methods, and dived then into ecosystem services research and anything related to understand - and change! - people-nature relationships for a positive future.
In the past two decades she has been doing research in diverse locations around the world, including Germany, Canada, Hungary, Romania, and several further Eastern European countries. She is also a researcher at the Hungarian Centre for Ecological Research.
At the present, she is participating as Lead Author in the IPBES Monitoring Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Assessment while also co-leading work within the GEOBON Ecosystem Services Working Group.
